Dr. David Garner
Dr. Garner is the President of Health Life Coaching and Eating Attitudes LLC based in Arvada Colorado. Dr. Garner was the former President and CEO of the River Centre Clinic in Sylvania Ohio and the President of the River Centre Foundation. He founded the River Centre Clinic in 1996 based on a well-established therapy model for treating eating disorders that integrates individual, group, and family therapy to provide cost-effective and evidence-based treatment. He sold the clinic in 2019.
Although Dr. Garner no longer practices clinically as a psychologist, he is a Life Coach and remains active in research, health care, consulting, and coaching. Dr. Garner has published more than 180 scientific articles and book chapters, and co-authored or co-edited 7 books on eating disorders. Over the past 30 years, he has given over 400 lectures or workshops on a range of topics related to eating disorders and obesity. He has been recognized by Institute of Scientific Information (ISI) as one of the most highly cited researchers in the social sciences. He has also developed the two most widely used psychometric instruments in the eating disorder field- the Eating Disorder Inventory (EDI-3) and the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26).
Dr. Garner’s past academic appointments include Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Toronto; Scholar of the Medical Research Council of Canada; Professor of Psychiatry and Director of Research for the Eating Disorder Program at Michigan State University; Adjunct Professor of Psychology and Women’s Studies at the University of Toledo and Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Bowling Green State University.
